Who We Are >> Sally Spencer, Ed.D.
Sally
Spencer began working with young people as part of an inner-city theater
project. At the time she was a professional singer and actress, and
had appeared in numerous television shows, plays and musicals. However,
her life changed forever when she discovered the joys of working with
young people. After serving a couple of years as the Arts and Education
Director of Heart of Los Angeles Youth, a nonprofit organization for
inner-city kids, she went back to school to get her Special Education
teaching credential. After years as a special education teacher for students with mild/moderate disabilities in elementary school, Sally is now pleased to be supporting new teachers as part of the faculty of the Department of Special Education at California State University, Northridge. Her areas of interest include teaching reading to students with learning disabilities, reading instruction for secondary students with learning disabilities, co-teaching, collaboration and the student teaching experience.
